Cloud Business Apps
June 19th 4:20 PM - 5:30 PM
SharePoint 2013 introduced the concept of Apps, but it is really Office 365 that is driving this phenomenon. With good reason Microsoft doesn't want our full trust code solutions running on their shared services, and Apps are the answer to that. However building Apps for your enterprise is different than creating simple Apps for sale in the Office Store. Whether you're ready to move to the cloud, or you want to make sure you leave the door open, this session is for you.
We'll start with an overview of the different types of Apps, and what you can do with them. We'll discuss why SharePoint hosted and Auto Hosted Apps take a back seat to Provider Hosted for most enterprise apps, and what that means. Authentication is the biggest challenge for new App developers, and we'll go over options such as Windows Azure AD, OAuth, or JWT.
Don't worry if you're not a developer and don't know all the acronyms. We'll also make the session real and go over some actual enterprise Apps we've been building for our clients. One is a case management system supporting external users, document and records management, payment gateway, collaboration, and legacy systems. A second we'll cover is an employee self-service portal for a global medical products and services company.
Building a Website on SharePoint 2013
June 20th 10:00 AM - 11:10 AM
Join Peter as he takes you through the full life cycle of creating a web site on SharePoint 2013, leveraging Visual Studio 2012, SharePoint 2013, TFS, PowerShell, and Agile. An enterprise SDLC will be presented, including continuous integration and automated testing.
While focused on public web sites and Extranets, the same techniques apply to Intranets as well. The session will be broken into the following sections:
- Overview of Web Content Management in SharePoint 2013
- Adaptive Design of the Site
- Infrastructure Build
- Application Lifecycle Management for SharePoint
The focus for the session will be the
www.envisionit.com/shakespeare reference site. This is a full project built from the ground up to fully leverage SharePoint 2013, and act as a reference for the techniques used. The full set of project artifacts are available under a Creative Commons license so that at the conclusion of the session you will have all of the tools needed to build and experience your own version of the site. Content available in the package includes:
- All design files (Mind Map, Axure Wireframes, Word specification, Adobe and HTML mockups)
- Visual Studio 2012 solution
- Site columns and content types

- Term store export/import tool with full support for 2013 navigation features
- Site content, including the complete works of Shakespeare tagged for the site
- PowerShell scripts for automated creation of the site, including site collection, features, and content
This package can be easily deployed to a Cloudshare SharePoint 2013 test environment, or an on-premises farm.
