Mississauga, June 13, 2014 - On the weekend of June 7 and 8, 2014 the 7th annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer took place, and this year's event brought over 5,212 riders who raised a record $20M for cancer research. Envision IT's own President, Peter Carson and VP Sales & Marketing, Peter Mackenzie, took part in the event. The pair trained for several months to prepare for the two-day 200+km ride between Toronto and Niagara Falls. Together they raised $6,256 which benefits Personalized Cancer Medicine at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. It was a very personal ride for them both, as cancer has touched the lives of family and close friends. This is not the first time the pair have participated. Both are avid cyclists and have ridden in this and other cycling fundraisers since 2010.
About The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Since 2008, The Ride has surpassed all other cycling events to become Canada’s most successful cycling fundraiser. Raising over $119 million for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and over $240 million for cancer research, treatment and care programs across the country.
“The overwhelming success of our 7th annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer is a direct result of this passionate and selfless community of riders, sponsors, donors, crew members and volunteers who support our mission to conquer cancer in our lifetime,” said Paul Alofs, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
“Two in five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer and this year, over 76,000 Canadians will die from the disease. Through the creation and implementation of the new gold standard in cancer care, the vital $20 million raised will help The Princess Margaret create and implement Personalized Cancer Medicine, which allows The Princess Margaret to detect cancers earlier, diagnose and target cancers more precisely and to provide support to patients and their families,” Alofs added.
